Americans are waking up to what’s being described as a “blue tsunami’ after last night’s election results. Democrats handily won control of both the House and Senate, in a sweeping takeover of Congress. There were multiple “firsts” throughout the nation: several first black governors, the first black female governor, first muslim elected to the Senate, first Latino governors, and the margins weren’t even close in most races. President Trump took to truth social as the results continued to pour in last night, blaming an unlikely source for the sweep: Fox News. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We’ve spent three decades covering American politics every election cycle, and for 20 years, from inside network newsrooms. Tonight’s coverage of the midterm elections is like the Super Bowl for political journalists, and watching the networks’ biggest and brightest stars come together on one night to bring Americas election results is an absolute blast. We’ll explain what’s going on behind the scenes and why having a little insider information will go a long way when you watch tonight: for both the election results and the entertainment on the set. Former Division I college athlete, 24-year-old Rachel Apa died after collapsing on mile 24 of the New York City Marathon on Sunday. Apa was all smiles passing her mom at mile 14, last texted her family “Ow, Ow” at mile 19, but kept running. Apa’s mom was waiting for her again at mile 25, but she never made it. Apa was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead later that night from a rare condition called rhabdomyolysis, where your muscles disintegrate and poison your blood. Her family says the 24-year-old was in “perfect health, perfect shape” and describe her death as “unfathomable.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
A former Ohio State University professor, 77-year-old James Hill, admitted to police he killed his wife after becoming the target of a “sextortion” scheme. Hill was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to murdering 64-year-old Mary Hill and trying to kill their dog before attempting to kill himself. Hill told investigators he was being threatened by a woman he met on a dating site who demanded $15,000 for the nude photos they exchanged. Like many recent familicides, Hill told police he saw no other way out, other than killing everyone. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
New York police are searching for a suspect who stabbed 28-year-old Katie Suarez, out for her evening run, just 1/2 a mile from her Brooklyn home. Suarez’s father went looking for her when she didn’t return and found her stabbed twice in the neck under a tree. Suarez is fighting for her life as police are looking for answers, saying this appears to be a random act of violence. This comes after a Central Park attack on a female runner last week and has eery similarities to the murder of a Queens woman whose father found her after she failed to come home from her run. Fiery and frustrated Lindsay Clancy defense attorney, Kevin Reddington asked the judge today: “Why do we not know if the next trial is going to be murder in the first degree or a lesser charge or no charge?” It’s a question many are asking and the hope is it will be answered two weeks from today, when the judge claims he will rule on several motions and the prosecution will land on it’s next steps. There was also a concern presented by the defense, pushing for a spring retrial of Lindsay Clancy, to ensure Judge William Sullivan can see this case to the end, before he might retire. T.J. ran and finished his fourth New York City Marathon (aka the best day in New York City) on Sunday, his first solo marathon, and on an injured foot no less! Amy spent her first NYC marathon spectating and cheering TJ. on, along with nearly 60 thousand other runners, and boy do they both have stories about what went wrong, what went right, and what was downright miraculous. If you’ve ever wondered WHY we punish ourselves by marathoning - and wait until you hear the aftermath of T.J.’s race - we explain we we’re already signing up for our next race. It was almost like a bizarre new magazine cover: “Martha Stewart Living, Homeless Edition.” In a strange departure from the curated perfection we’re used to from the homemaking, lifestyle guru, Martha Stewart briefly posted a Halloween photo of herself depicting a person experiencing homelessness. In the post Stewart has dirt on her face, ripped clothing, and a holds a sign reading: “I’m hungry, please help!!” Stewart removed the post and apologized, claiming she was trying to raise awareness about a serious problem, but in her caption she was selling halloween candles, not discussing homelessness. She has since apologized again, however, the reactions to her original post and her first attempt at an apology remain brutal. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Massachusetts mom who strangled her three young children to death is back in court today for a hearing that could determine whether she will be retried after a jury deadlocked 11 to 1 at her first trial. Judge William Sullivan will hear arguments from Lindsay Clancy’s attorneys to dismiss the murder charges and to discuss a timetable for a potential new trial if he allows the case to proceed. Meantime, an influencer who perpetuated the Patrick Clancy conspiracy theory has been criminally charged with wiretapping as speculation continues about whether Lindsay Clancy will testify in one of two civil cases involving health care providers. A judge ruled that Oscar winning actress Halle Berry will remain without primary custody of her 13-year-old son, Maceo. The judgement comes after a nearly two week hearing that included six hours of testimony by Maceo. The judge did, however dismiss Martinez’s request for a domestic violence restraining order against Berry after he accused her of physically abusing their son in September. Berry’s daughter, 18-year-old Nahla Aubry defended her mother, accusing Martinez of being on "quest to destroy my mom" and said she is "heartbroken" to see Maceo "become the subject of a public dispute that he may not fully understand." Alaska's governor has ordered an investigation into Democrat Mary Peltola’s involvement in a seemingly deceptive campaign trick to confuse voters on the ballot. A New York Times report, sourcing a dozen people either in or close to Peltola’s campaign, details efforts to recruit another Dan Sullivan to run against the Republican incumbent whose name is also, Dan Sullivan. Peltola has denied any involvement, instead pointing the finger at the Times, saying the outlet was just trying to increase its “subscriptions.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week an Indiana parole board has pleaded with Governor Mike Braun to uphold the death sentence of 50-year-old Jeffrey Weisheit. Weisheit was convicted for the 2010 brutal killings of his then girlfriend’s two children ages 5 and 8. The details are excruciating, including the fact that Weisheit tied up 5-year-old Caleb Lynch after arguing with him, and placed a railroad flare in his underwear and underneath his body, before setting the home on fire with 8-year-old Alyssa hiding in the closet. Both children died in the fire, but there is an unlikely supporter of commuting Weisheit’s execution to life in prison: the children’s father. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Arkansas State Police are on the hunt for 41-year-old Rodney Smith after police say he assaulted two officers at the county jail and grabbed one of their tasers. Smith was last seen walking along railroad tracks near the jail, without shoes, but so far has managed to evade police. Meantime, we’re learning more about Tennessee’s escaped prisoner, convicted murderer Jacob Morley, who authorities now believe could be connected with an armed bank robbery in Wisconsin. That would mean Morley may be armed with a weapon and an undisclosed amount of cash. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

There are frightening headlines coming from the World Health Organization and Africa’s CDC surrounding the growing Ebola outbreak. With 10 thousand confirmed cases, and nearly 5,000 deaths, health officials are warning the disease could expand internationally if other nations don’t take appropriate actions. In response, the CDC has just announced new travel restrictions for anyone traveling from another country into the U.S. beginning November 3rd. There is currently no vaccine for the rare and deadly Bundibugyo strain, but the Trump administration is now funding the development of an experimental vaccine, awarding 36 million dollars to a New York based biomedical research organization. A residential cruise ship sailing around the world only gave its passengers several hours notice to disembark the ship they called home and find another place to live. More than 200 people expected to live on the ‘Odyssey’ for at least another year and a half, many of whom sold their homes and invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to become permanent residents sailing around the world. The company announced it ran out of money for fuel because of rising oil prices due to the Iran war and had no other choice but to suspend operations. Villa Vie was one of a number of companies that marketed endless, around-the-world cruises, where passengers could live less expensively than on land. Now, those passengers are stranded in Cambodia, trying to figure out what to do next. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Utah officials have announced that DNA has connected serial killer Ted Bundy to the death of an Utah teenager more than 50 years after her naked body was discovered in the woods by a hunter. New technology has finally solved the 1974 brutal murder and sexual assault of 17-year-old Melissa Ann Smith. Smith is the second woman this year investigators have been able to tie to Bundy, who admitted to killing at least 30 women and girls across seven states in the 1970s. Bundy was executed in 1989 for the murders of two sorority sisters at Florida State University, but officials believe he is likely responsible for dozens of other missing women. There is renewed hope now that this new technology may lead to more answers for other victims’ families. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

15 years after 33-year-old mother of three, Michelle Parker went missing, a newly unsealed affidavit reveals just how much damning evidence police have amassed against Parker’s ex-fiancee, Dale Smith Jr. Parker went missing within an hour of their “The People’s Court” episode, where a judge ruled that both parties should split the cost of a missing engagement ring. While Parker’s body has never been found, police now have incriminating cellphone records, text messages, and a lengthy criminal history of domestic violence by Smith that have many asking why it took so long for police to make an arrest. It was a powerful and emotional day in a Manhattan courtroom that ended with the judge sentencing Alon, Oren and Tal Alexander to 30 years each for drugging and raping dozens of women for more than a decade. 11 women came forward to read their victim impact statements to a packed courtroom, some of them directly addressing the brothers. The Alexander brothers were once wealthy, powerful men who used their status to lure women and teenagers to exotic locations where they sexually abused them. Each brother pleaded for mercy from the judge, but continued to plead their innocence. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dictionary.com’s Word of the Year is one that we’ve all heard, read, and yes, sometimes even used in varying situations. “Maxxing” is a word that refers to the practice of pursuing an activity to the fullest, or optimizing a certain aspect of your life. It can be used on its own, but it’s often used with a word ahead of it making it work in just about any scenario. While looksmaxxing may be the most well known application, it can be used throughout the day: you can be proteinmaxxing your breakfast, tokenmaxxing AI during your workday, and then end with cozymaxxing at night. The latest online controversy is heartbreaking, namely because there is a super talented, 3-year-old little boy in the middle of it. Nevada Pierre has a huge and growing social media presence because he’s got game; the videos posted show a toddler phenom on the soccer field and that’s what his parents say got other parents upset at a youth soccer game over the weekend. The sports organizer ultimately called 9-1-1 on the parents - admittedly not for an emergency - but because he claimed the mom was “unruly” after complaining her son was taken out of the game because he was “too good.” The highlight of this story: the cops, whose body cam footage shows officers who were there to protect and serve everyone that day. 50-year-old professional photographer, Irene Miller, was taken away in handcuffs as she deplaned from a work trip to Las Vegas. Police have charged her with 4 counts of child neglect after authorities say she left her 14-year-old, 12-year-old, 11-year-old and 9-year-old home alone for several days. Police were alerted when the oldest daughter called 9-1-1 after her 9-year-old brother dropped a dumbbell on his head. Miller says she hired a babysitter for mornings and afternoons, but allowed her kids to stay overnight unsupervised, and now she’s looking at serious, criminal charges. Convicted murderer, 28-year-old Jacob Morley, is on the run after escaping from the Tennessee Department of Corrections late Sunday evening. Morley was first noticed missing just before midnight, when surveillance footage later showed him “breaching” the prison fence and about an hour later stealing a white truck 2 miles from the prison. Authorities are warning residents in Tennessee and neighboring Kentucky and Missouri that Morley should be considered dangerous and should not be confronted. President Trump attacked "Real Time" host Bill Maher in a 1,300-word rant on Truth Social, calling the comedian a "COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER" after they recently had dinner together at the White House. A new report reveals that Meghan Markle sent a final letter to her dad last year, telling him she knew he had abused young girls, severing all ties with him and telling him he would never meet his grandchildren. Meantime, Philippine officials confirm their criminal investigation into Thomas Markle Sr., saying that all signs point to a “possible sex offender of the grossest kind.” Meghan’s half brother, Thomas Jr, who first alerted officials to the boxes of reportedly sexually graphic images of underage girls he found in his father’s home, is publicly apologizing to his sister for taking his father’s side for the past nine years.
